I hope this message finds you well! Our staff has been working hard to prepare for the new school year, and we’re excited to reconnect with you and begin another year of learning together.
Because we value our partnership with families, we’re starting the year with Parent-Teacher Conferences on Thursday, August 27th, and Friday, August 28th. These meetings will give you and your child the opportunity to meet with their teacher, share important information, and set the stage for a successful year ahead.
At our core, we want Tonasket Elementary to be a place where every child feels loved, cared for, and like they belong. Being at school regularly helps children build meaningful relationships with their teachers and classmates, develop confidence and routines, and make steady academic progress.
This year, we will continue working with families to support consistent attendance. Our goal is for every student to attend school at least 90% of the time. Last year, approximately 60% of our students met that goal, and we hope to improve that percentage by working together.
Attending 90% of the school year means missing no more than about two days each month. We understand that children get sick and that families sometimes face circumstances that make attendance difficult. This is not about perfect attendance or sending children to school when they are ill—it is about helping students be at school as consistently as possible when they are healthy and ready to learn. In this newsletter, we’ve included helpful guidelines for deciding when your child should stay home and when they are well enough to attend.
The start of a new school year is always filled with excitement. We have wonderful plans in place and cannot wait to welcome our students back! I am truly grateful for the support and involvement of our caring community, and I look forward to seeing you at conferences next week.
